baby bassinet

It's a new year and my projects are already lined up on the table. My resolution was to be more crafty and focus more on my drawing, but I can't resist a sewing project especially since I haven't sparked up my machine for a year. I don't know what it is, but in gift giving situations, I like to make them. I always get a good reception when I give them, however, who knows if they actually like it. No one has ever fell in love with anything like I do. I fall in deep lust over fabric, paint and so on. Right now my affair is making things with my machine.

Project number 1. A baby bassinet for a baby. I love this for a sentimental reason! I wish I had the pictures. But I received this little bassinet when I was 5 for Christmas and this is one of the very few things I got back as an adult that belonged to me. It was special and it was homemade and I hope maybe I can give a little sentimentality back to a little one.

So, I had to mentally dissect this bassinet and make a pattern. The only mystery was what that plastic-y material at the bottom of the bassinet sewed inside. I racked my brain until the hubs asked a lady at Joann's and sure enough it's a vinyl used in making stencils in the quilt section. So I hope it works. Whatever it is, it has to be washable.

I have already bought the material. Pink quilt material with the batting already sewn in and a cute little checkered pattern. I think it's Gingham, but as Wikipedia is not working today because of the censorship issue, I will have to just guess.

I will be cutting out the pieces tonight and hopefully I have a good shade of pink thread available.
