Scrapbook Paper Canvas

I spend a great deal of time when I can get it at a craft store. Lucky for me, I have 3 craft stores all in one parking lot. Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and a JoAnn's if you can believe it. In the scrapbook department, they are a bit different in what they carry and so I get very excited to see new scrapbook papers in bundles already sorted out by colors and themes. I happen to see this particular one that I got at Hobby Lobby. The name escapes me, but it's theme is women and fashion and it reminded me of the hand drawn models on old sewing patterns.

I racked my brain on what I could do. I wanted to showcase these papers as art and not necessarily a scrapbook page. I had two old decorative paintings I did a while back that were in storage and useless so I re purposed them for this project. It's still a work in progress. Basically, I repainted the canvas with some pink acrylic, on one, I used the crackle technique. After it was dry, I cut papers with my handy paper cutter and just started going to town. I wanted to have just a little original artwork in there somewhere, so I drew a quick dress and pretended it was a pattern so I marked it up. I "mod podged" the crap out canvas and it was tricky to get it all smooth. For this project I used a mat version to reduce glare. I added loose beading at the bottom and glitter and whatever else I had to make this piece more fun. You can add and add and add. It's a lengthy process, but oh so fun to get in to and get dirty. I don't know about you but I love peeling the mod podge from my fingers when I am all done. This is a great project to do when you want to get rid of papers or just have your pieces on the wall. Very thrifty. I will publish the finished product when I have had enough fun.
